Pepe Wonosikou, founder of the Numan School Project and Numan, Nigeria native, has been passionate about the education of children for most of her 30-something years. As a young girl growing up in Nigeria, where 72% of women are illiterate or have less than a seventh grade education, she realizes not only the value of school for all children, but the desire to encourage and empower girls has become a driving force in both her personal and professional life.
Inspired by her mother,
who, although denied a high
school education because of
her gender, made it her priority
to educate all her children,
especially her five girls, Pepe
founded Numan School Project
to honor her mother's sacrifice
by helping the children of her
hometown receive a better
education and become the
pioneers of a brighter future.
